Duluth man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting children at daycare

DULUTH, MN — A Duluth man has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting children staying overnight at an in-home daycare.

Daniel Bunnell, 23, entered those pleas in St. Louis County Court Tuesday.

Court documents show Bunnell is the son of the woman who ran the 24-hour daycare, which was located near W. 2nd St. and N. 29th Ave. W. in Duluth.

Bunnell’s charges stem back to April and May 2018, when two separate girls reported Bunnell woke them up in the middle of the night and sexually assaulted them.

Court documents show Bunnell is scheduled to be sentenced in May.

According to the Department of Human Services’ online records, the daycare’s license was indefinitely suspended in 2018 shortly after Bunnell was charged and was officially revoked in January 2020.
