Parents shocked at sexual assault charges at Round Rock in-home day care

The home a Central Texas couple entrusted with their son’s care is now the site of a child sexual abuse investigation.

My heart just sunk,” said Liz Guevara.

That’s the reaction both Guevara and her husband Chad Truitt had when they saw the news that 45-year-old Taylor Acord was arrested for sexually assaulting two young girls.

“I saw his name and immediately saw the address,” said Guevara. “And I was like no this can’t be.”

“I forgot what I was doing,” said Truitt.

Their son was four-months-old when he started in-home daycare at Acord’s home on Deerfoot Drive, a daycare run by Acord’s wife.

“I trusted her with my son. When we interviewed we interviewed both of them,” said Guevara.

Acord is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child for allegedly abusing a four-year-old girl in June of 2017 and a two-old-girl in November of 2019.

“They just seemed like just normal happy family and you don’t expect this to happen. And then this morning, I was a little scared of dropping my son off at the daycare he’s at now because it’s also an in-home daycare,” said Guevara.

Police believe Acord abused the victims inside the day when separating the victims from other children.

Liz says she took her son out of the in-home daycare in June 2019 because she noticed he was being left unattended or alone with other children.

“It happened three-time and at the third time I was like no we’re not doing this,” said Guevara.

With news of Acord’s arrest, their worst fears are now playing in her head.

Now I’m like did it happen to my son? Did it happen to the little girls who were there while my son was there?

“My daughter is four years old,” said Truitt. “And at some point, she was going to go there too,” added Guevara.

Both parents say if the allegations are true, they wonder if the person caring for their son knew about the abuse.

“If he actually did it, then I would want him to pay for what he did. And if she knew about it, she should get prosecuted as well,” said Guevara.

While Acord’s charges are pending a future court date, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is also conducting an investigation into the daycare. Once those findings are complete, the Department of Health and Human Services will determine if the daycare center complied with state standards and what action must be taken.

CBS Austin reached out to Acord’s attorney, who was not immediately available on Friday to comment on the case.
