Ex-Employee Alleges That Michael Bloomberg Asked Pregnant Co-Worker If She Would “Kill It”

Working moms have it hard these days. If you are in-between jobs looking for more secure employment and get pregnant you have to pick and choose when and how to tell future employers you are pregnant. If you are working a more demanding job in an industry or a company that is not family-friendly, you risk being terminated or laid-off if you take too much time away for family leave.

In the United States, the current political climate is more and more volatile than ever before.  While working-class families want to be able to secure affordable housing and daycare, corporations are making it harder and are being more unforgiving with employees. Even though the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) is set in place to protect expecting and moms with children, businesses, political leaders and society have found loopholes and ways to discriminate against pregnant and new moms without being sued for it.

There are several candidates currently running for president in the United States election in an effort to beat Donald Trump. One of the candidates, former New York City mayor and billionaire Mike Bloomberg has been under fire and accused of asking a former co-worker named Sekiko Sakai Garrison if she was going to terminate her pregnancy shortly after she announced it.

This incident occurred in 1997 and was a highly publicized lawsuit. Other former employees of Bloomberg corroborated the claims against as they stated they overheard him asking the women if she was going to terminate her baby. Bloomberg denied the allegations but eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Garrison, the alleged victim was his top salesperson for his company before the lawsuit.

The incident in question occurred in 1995 just two years before the lawsuit. Garrison and other employees claimed that Bloomberg was exceptionally rude to the married women in his office. Garrison, announced her pregnancy to some of her co-workers and Bloomberg overheard it and that is when he injected into the conversation asking her if she would consider killing it. When word had spread that Garrison was uncomfortable and even upset by his words, he left her a voicemail claiming that she misinterpreted his words.

Bloomberg has years of sexist allegations against him from his former employees. According to The Washington Post, employees told them that Bloomberg made crude comments about women quite often. Former co-workers also claim that Bloomberg created a work environment where men would target, naive young women for sex. The latest sexual allegation against Bloomberg occurred in 2016 and that would total two decades of lawsuits against Bloomberg.
