The Pandemic Severity Index Framework, as its name implies, is a clinical scale designed to assess the severity or impact of influenza pandemics. The Pandemic Severity Index was initially created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and published by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2007. Since PSI was created as a linear scale, Pandemic Severity Assessment Framework eventually took its place in 2014.
