Ohio kindergarten student takes gun to school, police say

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A handgun was taken from a 6-year-old kindergarten student as he tried to enter his school and police are now trying to figure out how he obtained the weapon.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the boy will not be charged because of his age. The boy will face discipline from the school, 10tv.com reports.

A parent called Africentric Early College K-12 when they noticed the boy appeared to be carrying a heavy object in his pants, WCMH Channel 4 reports.

The student was stopped at the door of the school and the weapon was taken by a staff member and given to the school resource officer. Police did not say if the handgun was loaded.

No one was injured during Friday’s incident but police are continuing to investigate.
