Parents, staff left without answers after Port Charlotte daycare closes abruptly

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – It came as a surprise to parents and staff members alike.

Grace Community School, a daycare center at 4334 Laura Street in Port Charlotte, closed abruptly Tuesday morning.

Both staff members waiting to start their workday and parents expecting to drop their kids off were greeted with a sign on the front door saying the school will be “closed for an undetermined amount of time.”

Neither parents or staff members were made aware of the closing beforehand.

About 70 kids were enrolled in the school.

The school made a post on Facebook addressing the closure, saying the location closed due to “circumstances beyond our control.”

According to Charlotte County, the location didn’t have any code violations.

Grace Community School has several locations throughout Southwest Florida, including Naples, Bonita Springs and two in Cape Coral.

In 2015, a 6-month-old baby died at the Lehigh Acres location.
