High quality childcare becoming a necessity

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — According to Alabama Works childcare is one of three major barriers when entering the workforce.

Alabama Partnership for Children is making strides towards childcare being a necessity for working families.

They met with the Dothan-Area Chamber of Commerce and other Wiregrass businesses Monday to get their input on the issue.

The organization is working on incentives for all involved.

“Investments in childcare are necessary for working families,” Alabama Partnership for Children Executive Director Gail Piggott said. “They are necessary to build the workforce that you’re going to try to hire 15 and 16 years from now.”

The Committee for Economic Development is teaming up with the Alabama Partnership for Children for a grant to issue high-quality childcare for working families.
