MALVERNE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – A little girl napping at a Long Island daycare never woke up and died at a hospital days later. Now authorities are trying to figure out what killed her.

The 3-year-old had just finished practicing Christmas songs at the Grace Lutheran School on Friday when Pastor David Anglada says the child fell asleep and teachers were unable to wake her up.

“CPR was performed, then we immediately, as CPR was performed, the church called 911 and they came and took over,” Anglada said.

The young girl passed away at a hospital Monday.

“She was a happy child. So that’s what hurts us to see children that laugh, that run – it’s hard to see a children that was singing with all the other children,” Anglada said.

Counselors are being made available at the school for the children, the parents and the teachers.

Police are investigating as they wait for the autopsy report to be released.
