Some daycare providers haven’t been paid the past few weeks

Some childcare providers haven’t received their pay the past few weeks from the state.

“The stress level has gotten so overwhelming for many of us. It’s just overwhelming and hard for us to deal with right now. Because we need to be paid,” says Adriene Jones, a childcare provider.

Adriene Jones runs a daycare out of her house and gets paid through the Department of Human Services.

“DHS runs the CCAP program. Which is for parents who need help with childcare assistance. So, they pay for the parents,” says Jones.

Jones says despite not being paid the past few weeks, she has still kept her daycare open.

“Without us, parents can’t go to work, you know if we were to say, I’m not getting paid, therefore I’m going to close my doors today and I’m gonna wait for my pay that means these parents will lose their jobs because they don’t have anyone to watch their children,” says Jones.

We did reach out to IDHS about this issue. They gave us a statement saying:

“Child care providers perform an essential service for families statewide and this administration is committed to ensuring they receive their payments in a timely manner. Over the last couple of weeks, there have been technical problems in our payment processing system and we’ve shared updates with providers about the issue on a daily basis. Thankfully, those problems are now resolved and providers will begin to receive their payments starting today. We will continue to communicate with providers about the timing of future payments to ensure they are predictable and regular.”

Childcare workers hope for this never to happen again.

“The only thing I hope for is that they find a solution to stop this from happening in the future,” says Ulonda, a childcare provider.

Thankfully, the Department of Human Services says the technical issue has been resolved. Providers should’ve already started receiving payments.
