A teacher was arrested Friday after she allegedly stapled a four-year-old boy’s ear. The incident took place at a kindergarten in Jalan Chawan, Malaysia, on Thursday.

Police said the boy’s father arrived at the kindergarten to pick him up Thursday afternoon and noticed a wound on his left ear. It appeared as if the ear was stapled.

“It is believed that the teacher stapled the victim’s left ear which was later discovered by the boy’s father who picked him up from the kindergarten at around 11.30 a.m. local time, Thursday (11.30 p.m. EDT, Wednesday),” police said in a statement.

Suspecting that the boy was abused, the father rushed to the principal’s chamber to sought clarification. The principal offered an apology, however, did not provide details on what had happened. The father then tracked down the teacher who insisted she knew nothing about it.

The following morning, the boy’s parents filed a police complaint following which the teacher was taken into custody.

“The 26-year-old woman was later detained to determine if she had hurt the boy with a stapler. She is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt,” police said. The teacher has since been released on bail.

The incident comes less than a month after a Malaysian teacher stapled a 10-year-old boy’s ear for not doing his homework. The incident came to light when the boy’s mother noticed a wound on his left ear while picking him up from the school. She immediately filed a police complaint. The boy’s parents withdrew the complaint a few days later following which the teacher was transferred to another school.
